The hoops are 1 3/8" (35 mm) in diameter and the total earring length is about 2 1/4" (57 mm) measured from the top of the ear wire. The collection of 3 mm agates are natural, dyed or heated as this stone can be treated many ways to change the colors AND also comes naturally in a wide range of colors. Stone beads were threaded on to heavy gauge gold filled wire, captured with wire wrapping of finer gold filled wire, and then hand formed into hoops with a loop for hanging built into the top. They swing freely from ear wires that I formed from gold filled wire that is textured with a twisted effect.

The story behind this bold pair of hoops is fun. I ordered a few strands of mixed agate beads and when I saw the wonderful range of bright colors, my inner child reverted to form just like my earlier days with a box of crayons---which is to say, I had to arrange them into some variation of a rainbow order. Then, the question was, how to use 21 individual beads so each could be seen and enjoyed? These gold hoops, elegantly beaded, evolved from this design challenge. I can eventually make 3 more pairs similar to these, although each collection of agates will slightly different as there will be some natural but very beautiful variation. This design is made to order which may add about one week to the time until it's mailed.

Gold filled wire is a tube of 14 karat gold, bonded to a core of jewelers brass, such that the gold content is 1/20 of the total weight. This material is as beautiful as gold and much more durable than plated gold since the layer of gold is much, much thicker. It is referred to as gold fill 14-20. It will last a lifetime and longer, but is much more affordable than solid 14 karat gold.
